From Salta, we drive to Cachi via the Cuesta del Obispo, getting to 3,300 meters of altitude. We descend the Tin Tin Stretch, cross the Los Cardones National Park and arrive in Cachi. We ascend to the Altiplano by the Abra El Acay, at 4,890 m of altitude, descending to San Antonio de los Cobres, at 3,700 meters of altitude. We visit the La Polvorilla rail bridge (Tren a las Nubes). We follow the Altiplano north to the Salinas Grandes salt flat. We descend via the Cuesta de Lipán, to the "pueblo" of Purmamarca. We return to Salta by the more scenic route.

After our transfer from the airport to the hotel, we hold a briefing session, where we will discuss the most important aspects of our trip. The remaining part of the day is free. We suggest walking the city center (Plaza 9 de Julio), the San Bernardo hill, the wide variety of handicrafts and the many gastronomic choices. Next morning, after breakfast, our adventure trip begins.

From Salta we ascend to Cachi by the fantastic Cuesta del Obispo, getting to 3.300 meters of altitude, at the Piedra del Molino. From this point we descend via the Parque Nacional los Cardones, with its uncountable cactus of the Trichocereus genus, passing through the Tin-Tin Stretch. Nearing Cachi we will be able to view the Nevado de Cachi (6,550 meters).

We will ascend the Calchaquí valley until its origin, the Abra El Acay, at 4,890 meters of altitude, when the Altiplano will unfold ahead of us. We may see vicuñas, guanacos, foxes, condors. We descend to the altiplanic town of San Antonio de los Cobres, at 3,700 m.

From San Antonio de los Cobres, we drive north on the Altiplano, to the Salinas Grandes salt flats. We descend the Altiplano via the Cuesta de Lipán, arriving at the picturesque "pueblo" of Purmamarca. After lunch, we enjoy the famous rock formations, such as the Cerro de los Siete Colores. We proceed to Salta by the more scenic route.
