From Salta, we will drive to Cafayate by way of the Quebrada de las Conchas. We will go up the Calchaquí valley via the Quebrada de las Flechas until Cachi. We ascend the Altiplano via the Abra El Acay, at 4,890 meters of altitude, when we descend to San Antonio de los Cobres, at 3,700 m. We will visit the La Polvorilla rail bridge (Tren a las Nubes). We return to Salta by the Quebrada del Toro, visiting the pre-Inca ruins of Santa Rosa de Tastil.

After our transfer from the airport to the hotel, we hold a briefing session, where we will discuss the most important aspects of our trip. The remaining part of the day is free. We suggest walking the city center (Plaza 9 de Julio), the San Bernardo hill, the wide variety of handicrafts and the many gastronomic choices. Next morning, after breakfast, our adventure trip begins.

Day 1:

Salta -> Cafayate

From Salta, we will drive to Cafayate via the Quebrada de las Conchas, with its splendid rock formations, a gift from nature. In Cafayate, besides the "bodegas", there are many opportunities for fine dining and a large choice of handicrafts.

Day 3:

Cafayate -> Cachi

Distance traveled: 180 km in 5 hours

Included: Breakfast, Lodging in La Merced del Alto

The morning is free. We suggest browsing the handicrafts in llama and sheep wool, silverware, ceramics. At the end of the morning we will ascend the gorgeous Calchaquí valley up to Cachi. In this valley, nature left the rocks in the most fantastic positions, as in the Quebrada de Flechas. We will visit the picturesque "pueblos" of Molinos and Seclantas. In Cachi we can enjoy the tranquility, colonial architecture, the archaeological museum.

We will ascend the Calchaquí valley until its origin, the Abra El Acay, at 4,890 meters of altitude, when the Altiplano will unfold ahead of us. We may see vicuñas, guanacos, foxes, condors. We descend to the altiplanic town of San Antonio de los Cobres, at 3,700 m.

San Antonio de los Cobres -> Salta

Distance traveled: 220 km in 5 hours

We will descend the Andes Cordillera, heading to the "pueblo" of Santa Rosa de Tastil, at 3,100 meters of altitude. There we find pre-Inca ruins, where we can walk around the extinct settlement. From Santa Rosa de Tastil we will descend to Salta via the Quebrada del Toro, enjoying its landscapes, noticing the gradual change from Altiplano to pre-Cordillera.
