From Salta, we will ascend the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a World Heritage site, visiting the pre-Inca ruins of Tilcara, arriving at Humahuaca. On the Altiplano, we will visit the Laguna de los Pozuelos Natural Monument and the Laguna de Guayatayoc, both rich habitats for Altiplanic fauna. On our return to Salta we will visit the Salinas Grandes salt flat, and drive down the Cuesta de Lipán, getting to know the town of Purmamarca.

After our transfer from the airport to the hotel, we hold a briefing session, where we will discuss the most important aspects of our trip. During the remaining part of the day we will do a city tour: we will visit the San Bernardo hill, the monument to Güemes, and walk around the city center (Plaza 9 de Julio). Next morning, after breakfast, our adventure trip begins.

Day 1:

Salta -> Purmamarca, Tilcara, Humahuaca

Distance traveled: 250 km in 5 hours

We drive up the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a World Heritage (UNESCO) site. We will visit the "pueblos" of Purmamarca (2,200 meters of altitude), with its spectacular rock formations ("Cerro de los Siete Colores" and "Paseo Los Colorados"), and Tilcara, where we have lunch. There we will visit the "Pucará", the pre-Inca ruins. We will rest for the night in the picturesque town of Humahuaca, at 2,936 meters.

Day 2:

Humahuaca -> Laguna de los Pozuelos, Abra Pampa

Distance traveled: 250 km in 4 hours

We will continue driving up the Quebrada de Humahuaca, arriving at the Altiplano, where we will visit the Laguna de los Pozuelos Natural Monument, at 3,670 meters of altitude. There we will be able to observe the varied Altiplanic fauna: vicuñas and llamas, foxes, flamingoes, ostriches and many other species of birds.

Day 3:

Abra Pampa -> Laguna de Guayatayoc, Salinas Grandes, Purmamarca

Distance traveled: 250 km in 6 hours

From Abra Pampa we will travel on the Altiplano to the Laguna de Guayatayoc, continuing on to the Salinas Grandes salt flat. From there we climb to 4,200 meters of altitude, before descending the Cordillera via the Cuesta de Lipán, arriving at the "pueblo" of Purmamarca, at 2,192 m of altitude. There we can hike the surrounding area, enjoying its fantastic rock formations, such as the Cerro de los Siete Colores and the Paseo Los Colorados.

Day 4:

Purmamarca -> Salta

Distance traveled: 220 km in 4 hours

From Purmamarca we will travel to Salta via La Caldera, the more scenic route.
